The OPPOSITION BLOC requires the authorities, without waiting for the elections, to stop discrimination of the residents of the Donbas and pay off the pension debts to the immigrants, - said the MP Ihor Shurma. - Delay in this issue is unacceptable.
According to Shurma, the government is obliged as soon as possible to cancel the mandatory registration of immigrants to receive pensions. “According to the UN, as a result of the conflict in the Donbas, 700 thousand Ukrainian pensioners lost access to their pensions. Just the other day, the head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, Fiona Fraser, recommended the Ukrainian authorities to cancel the registration of immigrants as a condition for receiving pensions. Nevertheless, Kyiv is in no hurry to stop discrimination of the residents of the Donbas,” the MP said.
Ihor Shurma doubts that the current authorities are able to solve this issue of the residents of uncontrolled territories. “It’s not about the fact that the Pension Fund lacks funds. When it is necessary to give handouts to pensioners on the eve of the elections, there is money. The fact is that the reintegration of the Donbas is simply not profitable for the authorities. People, who will never vote for them, live there. Apparently, the pension in this case is not allowed. They do not care about the fate of the Ukrainians behind the demarcation line,” the oppositionist added.
According to Shurma, this attitude towards those living in uncontrolled territories deepens the rift between the Donbas and Ukraine. “People were not just deleted from the list of citizens of the country, but also left without means of subsistence. This is a direct violation of the Constitution, which guarantees that all citizens of Ukraine have equal rights. Moreover, the Basic Law clearly states that in our country there can be no restrictions on the place of residence. The Constitution is the law of direct action. Therefore, the linkage of registration to receiving pensions by immigrants is illegal,” the politician noted.
Ihor Shurma assured that after the change of the authorities, the rights of pensioners in the Donbas would be immediately restored.“After being elected president, Oleksandr Vilkul guarantees the immediate abolition of all anti-constitutional norms, first of all, violating the rights and freedoms of Ukrainians,” Ihor Shurma emphasized.
