Tetiana Bakhteieva: Protecting and helping people with disabilities - we protect our human face

On December 3, by decision of the UN, International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated. According to statistics in Ukraine, more than 2.5 million people with disabilities, of which about 160 thousand children with disabilities – this is about 2% of the total child population of Ukraine. The level of civilization of this society depends on how society treats people who for one reason or another find it difficult or impossible to take care of themselves on their own. Such an opinion was written by the former MP, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Tetiana Bakhteieva, on her Facebook page.

In her words, it is not necessary something special for the lives of people with disabilities, just basic – the ability to live among people, be in society and just feel like people.

“Protecting and helping people with disabilities – we protect our human face. Disability is not a sentence! Among my friends there are people with disabilities, I love them and I am proud of our friendship! Practice shows that people with disabilities can and do become full-fledged members of society, excellent specialists, politicians, economists, doctors, socially active and life-affirming people who inspire many, including completely healthy people,” the MP said.

According to her, as an Honored Doctor of Ukraine and a politician, she is proud to be the author of a number of important and necessary Laws of Ukraine that protect the rights of people with disabilities.

“In developed European countries, people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as healthy people. The state provides them with a decent, decent life. People with disabilities in Ukraine are deprived of the opportunity to actively participate in society due to the fact that the state does not provide them with affordable medical care, social protection, and accessibility of social infrastructure.

And I really want that in the near future the attitude towards people with disabilities in our country will radically change for the better,” Tetiana Bakhteieva emphasized.
