Since the beginning of 2019, 27 people have died at checkpoints on the demarcation line in the Donbas – this is almost twice as much as from the hostilities (16 civilians). This state of affairs is simply unacceptable, the authorities are obliged, finally, to address this problem. This was stated by the former MP, Tetiana Bakhteieva.
According to her, experts of international monitoring missions note complaints of people crossing the checkpoint in the Donbas about corruption, rudeness, inefficiency of border guards, and the lack of basic conditions.
In addition, the MP emphasized that with the onset of winter and worsening weather conditions, crossing the demarcation line for older people and children would become even more complicated.
“This state of affairs is simply unacceptable. The authorities are obliged to stop the mockery of citizens, and create the most comfortable conditions for people who cross checkpoints on the demarcation line, paying particular attention to creating conditions for elderly people, people with disabilities, women with small children,” Tetiana Bakhteieva emphasized.
