Breast cancer is one of the most dangerous and prevalent malignant neoplasms in women, not only in Ukraine, but throughout the world. For effective diagnosis of breast cancer, Ukraine needs to purchase at least 100 digital mammographs and distribute them among the regions. On the occasion of World Breast Cancer Day, the former MP, Tetiana Bakhteieva, wrote on her Facebook.
According to her, breast cancer ranks first among all tumor diseases in women. During the year in Ukraine, averages of 15-16 thousand cases of breast cancer are recorded. Every year in Ukraine, 8 thousand women die due to this disease.
“According to the forecasts of the National Cancer Registry, by 2020 every sixth Ukrainian woman will face the problem of breast cancer. But now more than 16 thousand Ukrainians have been diagnosed with this disease, and it’s even scary to guess how many Ukrainians live without knowing about it,” the politician said.
According to her, a mammogram examination is able to identify the disease at an earlier stage. But in Ukraine there are not enough mammographs, even in Kyiv. In public hospitals, the line for a mammogram can last for months. Many patients find out about an advanced stage of cancer in a study.
“Timely diagnosis of breast cancer saves lives. If the diagnosis is made at the 1st stage, 98% of women recover. For effective diagnosis of breast cancer, Ukraine needs to purchase at least 100 digital mammographs and distribute them among the regions of our country. This is a health issue for Ukrainian citizens!” Tetiana Bakhteieva emphasized.
