Monetized subsidies from Poroshenko and his allies should supplement the criminal case on vote-buying initiated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov. This was stated by the deputy of the Odesa Regional Council from the OPPOSITION BLOC Iryna Kovalish.
According to the deputy, the experiment launched by the government to distribute subsidies to the population in cash is a new attempt to bribe voters on the eve of the presidential election and disguise the bribe under the “care” of poor citizens of Ukraine.
According to Iryna Kovalish, over the past five years, the current authorities headed by the guarantor have not made any attempts to eradicate poverty. According to her, there is no real concern for the population in the actions of the authorities. “The leadership of the country has raised the utility tariffs several times, has driven Ukrainians into the housing and communal bondage, has tightened the conditions for obtaining subsidies. Now care about a person – issuing UAH 300-500 in cash or to a card to low-income citizens is given by the authorities for the feat. According to the same principle, “Petro’s thousand” is distributed in the country and a one-time amount of UAH 2400 is paid to pensioners with a minimum pension. With these handouts, the current leadership of the country wants to remain in power. Ukrainians can’t be bought with campaign handouts,” she noted.
The politician believes that the monetized subsidies from Poroshenko and his allies should supplement the criminal case on vote-buying instituted by Arsen Avakov. In this way, the authorities plan to promptly, until March 31, distribute about UAH six billion. She also recalled that at the end of 2018, voting for the state Budget-2019, the ruling coalition clearly stated that there was a serious shortage of funds in the budget for paying subsidies. “Over the past year, the number of recipients of subsidies has almost halved in the country due to the tightening of rules for their registration. The current authorities are guided not by the desire to help socially unprotected Ukrainians, but by a burning desire to be re-elected to a new term by all means and get rich. For this, the ruling coalition uses all sorts of methods,” the oppositionist emphasized.
According to Iryna Kovalish, the current leadership of the country is not able to pass laws and act in the interests of its citizens. She noted that a number of utility providers had announced a revision of tariffs towards their increase since May 2019.
“Things speak better than words about any politician. For two years from 2012-2014, during service of Oleksandr Vilkul as Vice-Prime-Minister, not a single tariff for housing and communal services was raised by a single penny. If a socially responsible statesman has a conscience, this is immediately evident from his actions,” said Iryna Kovalish, deputy of the Odesa Regional Council from the OPPOSITION BLOC.
