Yevhen Muraiev registered a petition on the website of the Presidential Administration for the release of Oleksandr Yefremov

The leader of the “OPPOSITION BLOC” party Yevhen Muraiev registered a petition on the website of the Presidential Administration about ending the political persecution of Oleksandr Yefremov. The corresponding petition under the number 22/063848-ep appeared on the website of the Presidential Administration.

In it, Yevhen Muraiev asks President Volodymyr Zelensky to stop the political persecution of Oleksandr Yefremov and ensure the right of a politician to an impartial trial within a reasonable time.

As noted in the petition, Oleksandr Yefremov has been in remand centre in Starobilsk, Luhansk Oblast, since 2016. At the same time, the investigation regarding the politician hasn’t moved.

“Despite the dire state of health of Oleksandr Yefremov and the lack of evidence of his guilt, which, as advocates have repeatedly stressed, were never presented in court for three years of consideration of the case,” the court did not agree to change the preventive measure for the politician. Under the previous power, the consideration of the proceedings against Oleksandr Yefremov was artificially delayed, which once again testifies to the legal nullity of the charges brought against him. His arrest and detention was politically motivated by Petro Poroshenko,” the petition says.

In this regard, the author of the petition appeals to the current President of Ukraine.

“In his statements, President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly stressed that under his rule political persecution will be stopped. We believe that a concrete case can be the best confirmation of the sincerity of these words of the new Head of state, namely, the elimination of the consequences of the instructions of the previous President of Ukraine to law enforcement agencies regarding Oleksandr Yefremov and the cessation of political pressure in criminal proceedings. The result will be the release of Oleksandr Yefremov,” Muraiev said.

The petition also says that a group of deputies are ready to take Oleksandr Yefremov on bail.

“Article 6 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms says that everyone has the right to a fair and public hearing of the case within a reasonable time by an independent and impartial court. We ask you, Mr. President, to stop the political persecution of Oleksandr Yefremov and prove that the judicial system in Ukraine is designed to protect the interests of citizens, rather than serve the management of state for revenge and settling political scores!” the petition says.
