Two renovated monuments to soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War have been opened in the Chuhuiv District. The leader of the Kharkiv regional organization of the OPPOSITION BLOC, MP Dmytro Shentsev, visited the village of Ternova and the village of Malynivka – it was in these localities that the memory of the heroes was perpetuated.
“On June 19, we opened monuments to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War in Malynivka and the Ternovy Chuhuiv District. This is part of a special program that has been working since the beginning of my parliamentary activity. We collect information of village and town councils on all memorials in need of restoration. We restore the destroyed and install new monuments. We find burials, sometimes we manage to establish the identities of fallen soldiers,” the politician said.
He noted that this was a very important personal mission for him. “I am the son of a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. During the war, my grandfather died, and I still do not know where his grave is. But I believe that once it will be found and a memorial sign will be installed on it,” Dmytro Shentsev said.
According to the oppositionist, our sacred duty is to remember those who freed the world from fascism and to teach our children about it. “This is our story that needs to be perpetuated. It is not the first time that pro-government politicians are trying to take away our heroic past from us, destroying monuments, renaming settlements and avenues. The first wave of renaming took place in Ukraine under Yushchenko. The second we are seeing now. However, the story cannot be destroyed. It is always with us,” he added.
“Kharkiv City Council decided to return Zhukov Avenue to its original name, and I am proud of the Kharkiv citizens who have achieved this. We must honor and remember our heroes,” the oppositionist summarized.
