Oleksandr Vilkul: Privatization of Odessa Port Plant during a crisis is a crime and looting

Presidential candidate from the OPPOSITION BLOC Oleksandr Vilkul met with the labor collective of the Odessa Port Plant and discussed with them the pressing problems of the enterprise.

“Odessa Port Plant is a city-forming flagship enterprise and an example of looting of the current authorities. They specifically stopped the plant to privatize it as cheaply as possible, practically to steal it. This is the chicken that laid the golden eggs and paid billions to the budget of Ukraine. Today, half of the labor collective has already left for work around the world. And those who remained, are barely surviving,” Oleksandr Vilkul said.

The opposition leader stressed that Odessa Odessa Port Plant is not only strategic, but also super profitable enterprise with effective organization of its work. At the same time, the problems of the plant are artificial and are the result of behind-the-scenes speculations of officials and corrupt officials close to the current regime.

There is one figure, which says about the plight of the plant – over the past five years, the number of employees has fallen by half – from 4 to 2 thousand, hundreds of applications for dismissal are in the personnel department. Due to problems with the supply of natural gas, the Odessa Port Plant is virtually idle.

“There is some non-working equipment behind me. This is the equipment, which has worked for 40 years. And now, for the last three years, we have been working only three months a year, we have been standing for nine months. It was created to work around the clock, seven days a week, no holidays. Then it turns out effective work, salaries and taxes for the country. Oleksandr Vilkul worked in the production and he knows the production. He understands our pain, our concern, and he knows the ways out of this situation,” Valery Sevastyanov, deputy director of the Odessa Port Plant, said.

In the spring of 2018, the State Property Fund tried to sell the Odessa Port Plant for $ 54 million, which is 15 times lower than 5 years ago (in 2015, the starting price of the enterprise was more than half a billion dollars, and in 2013 it was about more than $ 800 million). At the same time, in accordance with the plan of the Cabinet of Ministers, the total income from the entire privatization of strategic enterprises in 2019 is planned at a level of only about $ 600 million.

Among the “lots” put up for sale are such strategically important enterprises for Ukraine as Turboatom”, “Electrotyazhmash”, “Sumykhimprom”, Odessa Port Plant, Zaporizhzhia Titanium and Magnesium Plant, “Indara” – the only plant in Ukraine with complete insulin production cycle. In other words, enterprises that can rightfully be called a national treasure.

Oleksandr Vilkul stressed: “I protect the interests of the state and labor collectives. All plans for the privatization of strategic facilities should be scaled down before the reboot of the authorities and the beginning of industrial growth. Ukraine is and will be a developed industrial power, and not a poor, agrarian 15 million country, from which the entire working population has gone abroad to work.”

To overcome the crisis in the economy and industry, an opposition candidate for presidency has developed a set of measures for “New Industrialization” of Ukraine. It is based on public orders, industrial growth, large infrastructure projects, attraction of foreign investments, tax breaks for the real economy and long “cheap” loans.

“I will restore the enterprise. I will give the Ukrainians a decent job with high wages here in their homeland. And all the marauders will respond according to the law,” Oleksandr Vilkul concluded.
