Oleksandr Vilkul on Cosmonautics Day: We will still conquer space!

“Happy Cosmonautics Day, friends! Our people were the first to conquer space. This is our great story. Gagarin and Korolev, rocket builders Yangel and Makarov. This is our pride. We have unique specialists, now we raise “Yuzhne” and “Yuzhmash” design bureaus. Talented youth is our future. We will still conquer space! Happy holiday!” opposition leader Oleksandr Vilkul wrote on his Facebook page.

The MP systemically supports the rocket and space industry and other high-tech industry clusters. Together with his colleagues at the OPPOSITION BLOC, he has prepared and submitted a package of relevant draft laws to the Verkhovna Rada. However, the authorities block their adoption. According to the oppositionist, a radical revision of the state policy in this area is necessary.

Recall, the Ukrainian rocket and space industry unites more than 20 enterprises and research centers. From 1991 to 2018, 158 launches of carrier rockets were carried out. Of these, 20 – in the period from 2010 to 2013, and only 15 – from 2014 to 2018, manufactured with the participation of Ukrainian enterprises, 375 satellites were designed and launched. At the same time, for all the years of independence of Ukraine, only three satellites were launched for their needs.

24 countries of the world used the services of Ukrainian rocket scientists. Carrier rockets launched from six cosmodromes of the world (Baikonur, Plesetsk, Yasny in Russia, the “Odyssey” floating platform, the “Kuru” cosmodrome in French Guiana, the cosmodrome on Wallops Island in the USA). In different years, from 3 to 13% of all launches into space were carried out on our carrier rockets.

With the help of Ukrainian designers and at Ukrainian enterprises, there were created: the first step for the American carrier rocket “Antares”, the engine for the European carrier rocket “Vega”, the Russian carrier rocket “Dnipro”, the carrier rocket series “Zenit” for the project “Sea Launch”.
