Oleksandr Dolzhenkov: The loss of Ukraine in a transit dispute with Russia is a natural consequence of the policy of the current authorities

MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Oleksandr Dolzhenkov commented on the decision of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on blocking the transit of Ukrainian goods by road and rail transport to the markets of Central Asia.

“It is obvious that Russia has applied symmetrical measures with regard to the ban on exporting Ukrainian products through the Ukrainian-Russian and Russian-Belarusian borders in the direction of the countries of Central Asia. After all, this ban was preceded by the unauthorized and unofficial detention of Russian goods that transited through Ukrainian territory,” the oppositionist explained.

According to Oleksandr Dolzhenkov, Ukraine now, unfortunately, is in a tense relationship not only with the Russian Federation. The policy of the current authorities led to a confrontation with almost all neighboring countries. As a result, the WTO agreed with the position of the Russian Federation that the political situation in Ukraine in 2014-2015 created significant threats to its national security.

According to the politician, during these years, some nationalist, uncontrolled groups, on their own initiative, without any permission from state bodies, pursued and stopped Russian trucks with goods. It is natural that Russia established symmetrical measures, but in a civilized manner, at the state level, arguing its decision with a threat to national security.

“Unfortunately, the Ukrainian citizens found themselves in lose, whose welfare deteriorated due to the general fall in the country’s economy. This is because the ban on Ukrainian exports directly affects the deterioration of the economic situation of Ukrainian citizens. After all, their welfare cannot grow due to the poor economic situation in the country. Ukraine has already lost wherever possible, except for a gas dispute, in which, however, it has not received any money,” the MP concluded.
