Statement of the “OPPOSITION BLOC – The Party of Peace and Development” party
The first round of the presidential election has shown that frank populism and revolutionary emotions are still in demand in Ukrainian society. As a result, a representative of the “Party of War” and a frank populist has reached the second round, rather than the supporters of peace and economic recovery.
In the present situation, we have no right to call for supporting the current President, Petro Poroshenko, since we consider the time of his leadership of the country as a time of degradation of the public administration system, an era of lies and hypocrisy in politics. It is he who is responsible for the war and devastation, the deaths of tens of thousands of Ukrainians, the persecution of the canonical Church, the regime of fear and violence, rampant political banditry, the loss of all elements of subjectivity by the country. Poroshenko’s place is not in the presidential chair, but in the dock.
At the same time, we cannot support the candidacy of Volodymyr Zelensky, whose statements differ from our principled positions. The lack of a clear program and managerial experience, political eclecticism and Zelensky’s populism do not give us the right to urge our voters to vote and choose a “pig in a poke”.
The most honest position is to urge our voters to abandon the support of any of the candidates. We continue to consider it necessary to defend our positions set out in the program of the party and the program of our Candidate. We are consistent in our opposition, unlike those who, under the guise of opposition rhetoric, fought not with the authorities, but with us and our Candidate.
We continue to remain adherents of the parliamentary form of government and will do everything to ensure the political system of Ukraine changed, and the policy more responsible and stable. We believe that the main political struggle will unfold in the fall, during the elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. We urge all members of the party, all responsible citizens to focus on preparing for parliamentary elections and to work on real changes in society.
