The draft law on language will hit the rights of 17 million Russian speakers, - Oleksandr Dolzhenkov

The adoption of the draft law on language No. 5670-d will limit the rights of more than 17 million Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine, said MP of the OPPOSITION BLOC Oleksandr Dolzhenkov in the session hall of the parliament.

“For the second week in parliament, a law has been being discussed that can restrict us from using Russian and other languages except the state language. However, the Constitution not only fixes the status of the Ukrainian language, but also ensures the development of Russian and the languages of other national minorities,” noted Oleksandr Dolzhenkov.

The politician drew the attention of the MPs to the fact that draft law No. 5670-e regulates the use of languages of national minorities, but there is no norm protecting them. “This is despite the fact that 17 million Russian-speaking citizens live in Ukraine. Therefore, the OPPOSITION BLOC strongly opposes the adoption of this draft law,” the MP emphasized.
