On Thursday, September 26, in Schastiie of the Luhansk region, a public discussion was held on the possibility of opening a bridge over Seversky Donets and creating a checkpoint there. The event was attended by about a hundred local residents who raised a number of serious problems. MP Victoriia Hryb also took part in the discussion.
As a result of the meeting, she noted the desire of the overwhelming majority of local residents (72% according to a survey of the International Public Organization “Luhansk Community”) to open a checkpoint in the city, but other opinions and positions were expressed.
“There are two key factors in opening of a bridge – security and money. After all, this is not only about the city itself, but about the opening of a whole transport corridor to the occupied territory! And people are asking if the city’s infrastructure will withstand and where to find the money for this?” the politician noted.
According to the MP, the opening of the bridge will have positive consequences for the region, local residents, and state as a whole, which wants a peaceful resolution to the conflict. But this step needs to be calculated in detail.
“We discussed this issue with the public. The next step is an expert discussion with the participation of relevant organizations and state structures – the Military Civil Administration, the headquarters of the Joint Forces Operation, the Border Guard Service and others. I am convinced that donor organizations helping Ukraine to solve problems in the East should be involved in this initiative,” Victoriia Hryb emphasized.
