The head of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction, Vadym Novynskyi, stated from the rostrum of the parliament that last Sunday was indicative of Ukraine. The Ukrainians evaluated the last five years of the life of their country under the leadership of the current regime. “It’s not about the personality of Petro Poroshenko, it’s a matter of the system that he personified and headed,” the head of the opposition faction said.
According to Vadym Novynskyi, the Ukrainians expressed their choice against the decisions of the current authorities: against artificial separation into East and West, against war, poverty and hypocrisy. They are against nationalism as a state ideology, against the persecutions of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, against the rewriting of history and glorification of the Nazis as the heroes, against experiments with the language, against external control of the country, as well as against the persecution of the opposition.
“In such a situation, the Verkhovna Rada should hear the signal sent to it by the people, to recognize its responsibility for the situation in the country and restore confidence in the state and its institutions,” the politician addressed the parliamentarians.
The oppositionist is convinced that state authorities should focus its efforts on achieving peace, rebuilding and uniting Ukraine. “We must make every effort to achieve real economic growth, recovery of industrial production and improvement of social standards. And most importantly, we should protect the rights and freedoms of our citizens,” Vadym Novynskyi stressed.
The politician insists that the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada and a significant part of the MPs, unfortunately, did not learn the lesson of the presidential campaign and did not realize the reason for the loss of elections by the current authorities. This is confirmed by the language law, which is now under consideration of the parliament and splits Ukrainian society, violating the constitutional rights of Ukrainian citizens. “It’s time to realize that the aggressive language policy has become one of the reasons for the loss of the pro-government team,” the oppositionist told the members of the coalition.
According to him, it is advisable for MPs to move towards issues that are more important for the citizens of Ukraine. “First of all, it is necessary to make a decision that would guarantee the holding of parliamentary elections on the basis of open lists, that is, adopt a new Electoral Code,” Vadym Novynskyi stated.
He also noted the importance of the immediate consideration of the law on the opposition, which would consolidate the rights and political possibilities of the opposition in Ukraine and would bring the situation in the Verkhovna Rada in line with world standards of democracy. This would avoid any attempt to concentrate or usurp power. And the activities of the authorities would protect the interests of the whole country, rather than one political force.
“If the system turned out to be false, we should all learn from mistakes, rather than argue that it is a mistake of the people who do not understand the “big” intentions of the “big” politicians,” Vadym Novynskyi called on parliamentarians.
