Vadym Novynskyi proposes parliament to appeal to the president on the lifting of the blockade of the Donbass

MP Vadym Novynskyi proposes the Verkhovna Rada to appeal to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the lifting of the economic, energy, and transport blockade of the Donbass. Such an initiative, according to him, should be pursued precisely by the Verkhovna Rada as a key authority in the parliamentary-presidential republic. The corresponding Draft Resolution has been submitted to Parliament under No. 1088.

The document proposes to appeal to the President of Ukraine with a request to end the economic, energy and transport blockade of part of the territory of Ukraine, where state authorities temporarily do not exercise their powers (territories of certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions), as well as consider at the Council of National Security and Defense of Ukraine the issue of canceling the previous decision of the National Security and Defense Council, enforced by the Presidential Decree on March 15, 2017 “On urgent additional measures to counter hybrid threats to Ukraine’s national security”, which introduced an economic blockade of certain areas of the Donbass. Vadym Novynskyi noted the existence in the authorities of all the powers for such a decision.

“The economic and transport blockade of the temporarily occupied territories, operating in recent years, has not only damaged the state in the amount of tens of billions of hryvnias, but has also reduced thousands of jobs. This is unacceptable in modern economic conditions. The blockade did not give the expected results, because its initial goal, I recall, was an attempt to influence the hostage release process. Instead, because of the blockade, in fact, the scenario began to be realized when Ukraine gradually loses part of its territory due to a break in economic ties,” Vadym Novynskyi considers.

He also added that the issue of restoring peace in Ukraine should include the gradual economic integration of the occupied territories. “We must restore the lost economic, energy and transport ties, including restoring railway communication with the territories of certain arears of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The lifting of the blockade could be the first real step of the state towards peace and the reintegration of the Donbass,” the MP added.
