Six months have passed since the former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko resigned, but such a phenomenon as the seizure of churches in Ukraine is still ongoing by inertia. MP Vadym Novynskyi said this in a commentary to the “Pershyi Kozatskyi” TV channel, commenting on the situation in the religious life of the country.
According to him, under the presidency of Petro Poroshenko, all propaganda was aimed at defaming the UOC.
“Shameful practice is ongoing. The inertia of the movement that was set by the previous president, the previous government is so great that until now – six months have passed already since Poroshenko is not the president – and all these events continue today,” said Vadym Novynskyi and added, that through the efforts of Petro Poroshenko for a long time a policy of slander was imposed on the canonical Church of Ukraine.
“All propaganda of that time was aimed at slandering our canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Unfortunately, this still takes place, and not all people understood the harmfulness of the policy pursued by the previous power,” Novynskyi said.
According to him, the UOC, despite the persecution, continues to build temples.
“And all the other are just trying to take over the new one and something that does not belong to them,” the parliamentarian emphasized.
