Vadym Novynskyi: The OPPOSITION BLOC strongly opposes discriminatory language law

The OPPOSITION BLOC opposes any stratification of Ukrainian society. This was stated by the head of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction Vadym Novynskyi in the corridors of parliament on Thursday, February 28.

According to him, by the efforts of the current authorities, Ukrainian society is divided on issues of religion and attitude to history. Now they want to add a division according to the language principle. “The OPPOSITION BLOC opposes any stratification of the Ukrainian society, therefore we oppose the language law of the authorities,” the head of the opposition faction stated.

He noted that the opposition was and is in favor of state support for the development of the Ukrainian language, but not at the expense of minority languages. “And in general, the Russian language cannot be called the language of national minorities, because it is spoken by millions of Ukrainians,” the parliamentarian added.

“According to the Constitution, the state guarantees the support of development to all languages of all peoples who live in Ukraine. We demand the Constitution to be respected and laws passed in accordance with it. The authorities ignore this and want to conduct a forced Ukrainization of society. Their language draft law has a huge amount of comments even from the Main Scientific and Expert Department of the Verkhovna Rada. And it is already clear that there will be a huge amount of comments to it from the Constitutional Court. Why is it necessary to adopt an obviously imperfect law dividing society? We consider this decision not only inappropriate, but even harmful,” Vadym Novynskyi stressed.
