The meeting of the leaders of the “Normandy Four” in Paris was successful for all its participants – Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany. In the corridors of the parliament, Vadym Novynskyi, member of the Donbas Reintegration Committee, told reporters about this.
According to him, the summit in Paris brought several events at once for the first time. One of these was the signing by the four presidents of the final communiqué – a joint official statement on the results of the meeting.
“Under the Minsk agreements there was no signature of either the President of Ukraine or the presidents of Russia, France and Germany. The final communiqué of the Paris summit suggests that the parties express their commitment to the spirit and letter of the Minsk agreements. And they will do everything for their full implementation. That is, they actually signed the Minsk agreements in a new way,” Vadym Novynskyi stated.
Another event that took place for the first time in many years at the summit was a face-to-face meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Also, the parliamentarian noted the definition of clear next steps in the peace process.
“This is an all-for-all prisoner exchange, starting from all declared. The second is troop withdrawal in three more places, the third is mine clearance. And fourth, it is the expanding the OSCE’s mandate to monitor silence. Political steps were also discussed about displaying in some way the “Steinmeier formula” in the legislation of Ukraine, first of all, in the law on elections in uncontrolled territory. According to the text of the communiqué, these will be further steps to establish peace, this is very important. The most important event can be called the fact that for the first time in six years, a meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and Russia took place. It seems to me that trust has arisen between the two presidents,” Vadym Novynskyi added.
