The Selidovo and Uhledar miners who are on strike because of non-payment of wages handed over to the OPPOSITION BLOC faction a petition addressed to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, with a request to intervene in the catastrophic financial situation prevailing in most state-owned mines. Labor collectives of the “Yuzhnodonbaska” No. 1 mines and the state-owned enterprise “Selidougol” are taking part in the protest actions due to delays in salary payments for several months. The miners asked for help and support from the MPs.
In particular, in the appeal to the President, the miners ask to pay the debt, to arrange timely payment of salaries in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine and collective agreements, to cancel the discriminatory norm of labor legislation that divided the collectives of mines into industrial and non-industrial groups, which is reflected in the timing and amount of salaries paid.
“We have come here to hand over to the Office of the President of Ukraine the demands of the miners of the state enterprise “Selidovugol” and the “Yuzhnodonbaskaya” No. 1 mines on the necessity for timely payment of wages and the return of all those benefits that were spelled out in the Law “On the Prestige of Mining Labor”. This law must be renewed. The miners also demand wage increases to a decent level of at least 50%. However, their main demand is debt repayment. You cannot take away their right to life from the miners,” said Serhiy Sazhko, MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC.
According to the oppositionists, a systematic solution of the problem of miners is also in the urgent modernization of mines owned by the state and the resumption of the Law of Ukraine “On the Prestige of Mining Labor”.
