On May 9, in Sumy, for the ninth time, the people’s action “Remember your name”, dedicated to the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, organized by opposition deputies and public organizations, took place.
Despite the rainy weather, at 10 am, hundreds of citizens gathered on the Walk of Fame on Heroes of Sumy str. (Heroes of Stalingrad) to honor the memory of their fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers who fell in the war front lines and rebuilt the country in the post-war years.
As in previous years, this wonderful event has become an alternative to the official celebration of Victory Day. Without political slogans and flags, pretentious speeches, the residents of Sumy spent time in a kind and sincere atmosphere, remembering those to whom we are grateful for the Great Victory.
“Victory Day is the main holiday for the residents of our country,” Chairman of the OPPOSITION BLOC faction in Sumy City Council, Ihor Pepeka, said. – After all, the Great Patriotic War touched every Ukrainian family. That is why Victory Day has always been the most unifying holiday. In recent years, there have been attempts to erase it in every possible way from our memory, to change its meaning and meaning, to bring to oblivion the feat of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers. However, fortunately, there are very few people who are ready to agree with the slandering of the feat of their victor ancestors. This was once again confirmed by the citizens of Sumy, who gathered for the national action “Remember your name!”
Happy Victory Day! We remember! We are proud!
