On Victory Day, Borys Kolesnikov opened the restored monument in Kostiantynivka

Since 2018, the Borys Kolesnikov Foundation has been implementing the “For Your Liberators, Donbas!” charity program in Donetsk Oblast. It is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the region from the Nazi invaders and involves the restoration of all the obelisks and monuments of the Great Patriotic War.

On May 9, the President of the Foundation, Borys Kolesnikov, laid flowers at the restored Monument to the soldiers-liberators in Kostiantynivka. The obelisk was constructed in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Victory and has long been in need of major repairs. The Foundation carried out restoration work while preserving the appearance of the monument. During the solemn event, Borys Kolesnikov congratulated veterans of the Great Patriotic War, children of war, widows on Victory Day, wished them health, longevity and peace.

“We undertook the restoration of all the monuments and memorials to our heroes, the winners of the Great Patriotic War in the Donbas. By May 9, 2020, when Ukraine will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory, the Foundation will update 90 facilities requiring extensive repairs and maintenance. It is a great honor for us to restore the monuments to the departed heroes, and to give all the honors to the living. Unfortunately, only a few of them remained, but all of them should be surrounded by attention and care not only of the authorities, but also philanthropists,” Borys Kolesnikov said.

In addition, on the eve of Victory Day, representatives of the Foundation congratulated war invalids and participants in hostilities who, due to their health reasons, could not attend the celebration, and handed them gifts and sweets.

“In September I will be 100 years old. I have seen a lot in my life. Now in old age, my wife and I are alone. For us, attention and care is the main gift that warms the soul. I am very grateful to the Borys Kolesnikov Foundation for supporting and helping!” Mykhailo Pylypenko, a disabled man of the first group from Kostiantynivka, said.

Recall, within the framework of the “For Your Liberators, Donbas!” charity program, the Foundation restored 12 memorial complexes and mass graves that needed major repairs: the Motherland memorial complex in the village of Oleksandro-Shultino Kostiantynivsky district; mass grave and obelisk to fellow villagers who fell on the front lines of the Great Patriotic War in the village of Iarova, the Liman district; mass graves of Soviet soldiers in the villages of Znamenivka, Zelenyi Brod, Malyi Razdol, Dmytro-Darievka, Mykolske, Oleksandrivsky district; a monument to the soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War in the village of Maksymivka, Mariinsky district; monument to the soldiers-liberators in the city of Kostiantynivka; memorial monument “Motherland” in the village of Elizavetivka, Mariinsky district; mass grave of Soviet prisoners of war in the village of Serhiivka Pokrovsky district; mass grave of Soviet soldiers and a monument to fellow villagers in the village of Veroliubivka, Kostiantynivsky district.
