According to official figures, about 3% of the population of Ukraine - 1.2 million people- suffer from diabetes. The actual number of patients may be twice as high. Despite this, such a critical situation in the field of combating diabetes, as today, has not been for all years of independence. On the occasion of World Diabetes Day This was announced by the former MP Tetiana Bakhteieva.
According to her, every year in our country more than 100 thousand new cases of diabetes are registered. In this case, for each registered case, there are two or three cases of an undiagnosed disease.
“It is impossible to cope with diabetes without a clear program of action and without adequate funding. Such a critical situation in the field of combating diabetes, as today, has not been for all the years of independence! Over the past five years, the diabetes treatment program has been unsystematic and funded on a residual basis,” the politician said.
The former MP also advised Ukrainians to pay careful attention to their health and lifestyle, because diabetes prevention should be started as early as possible.
“It is necessary to achieve a healthy body weight and maintain it, engage in moderate regular physical activity, be sure to monitor nutrition, eat fruits and vegetables and avoid excessive consumption of sugar and saturated fats. It is also necessary to refrain from using tobacco,” Tetiana Bakhteieva emphasized.
