Tetiana Bakhteieva: The lack of social guarantees and an effective health care system have led to the fact that Ukrainians are simply afraid of having children

The population of Ukraine continues to decline steadily, and the demographic crisis is progressing in Ukraine, MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Tetiana Bakhteieva stated.

According to her, last year Ukraine ranked first in mortality in Europe, and according to official data, the population of the country decreased to 42 million, according to unofficial data – to 32 million.

“The International Monetary Fund, officially in a review by the IMF “Prospects for the world economy,” confirmed that the number of Ukrainians would naturally decrease by 1 million over five years. By 2050, the population of Ukraine can be reduced by 18%. The United Nations cites such data. One of the main factors is labor migration of the population,” the MP said.

According to Tetiana Bakhteieva, over the years of independence, Ukraine has dropped to 172 place in the world in terms of the birth rate. “The lack of social guarantees and an effective system of organization of health care, which should be ensured by the authorities, have led to the fact that Ukrainians are simply afraid of having children. Young, able-bodied people leave the country abroad in search of decent living conditions and wages,” the MP added.

According to Tetiana Bakhteieva, statistical data indicate that the population of Ukraine continues to decline steadily, and the demographic crisis is progressing in Ukraine.

“For five years, the current authorities have done nothing to rectify the situation. Now there is hope for parliamentary elections. People who know how to solve a problem should come to power in Ukraine. The most important thing is to return peace. If there is peace, there will be a rise in the economy, which means new jobs, and millions of migrant workers will be able to return home. These are the basics, without which the country is doomed to a catastrophe,” the MP concluded.
