Tetiana Bakhteieva: To retreat in the fight against smoking is to commit a crime against its own population

About 120 thousand people die from diseases resulting from smoking in Ukraine every year, and on average on the planet one heavy smoker dies every ten seconds. This was stated by MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Tetiana Bakhteieva.

According to her, the use of tobacco is the cause of death of every tenth adult in the world.

“For Ukraine, the problem of smoking was and remains one of the main threats to people’s health. Thanks to the Law adopted at my initiative, from December 16, 2012, places where smoking is allowed in Ukraine have been significantly limited. In particular, all establishments catering have become smokeless,” the MP noted.

According to Tetiana Bakhteieva, this law is one of the most important for all the years of independence of Ukraine. “It has become a historic step in protecting public health. Thanks to its adoption in Ukraine, there are more than 800 thousand smokers less, and non-smoking Ukrainians are forever protected from tobacco smoke in public places. As a result, Ukraine came out of the Top 10 countries with the highest number of smokers,” she added.

“I supported, support and will support the laws aimed at combating smoking! To retreat in the fight against smoking is to commit a crime against its own population,” the MP concluded.
