Tetiana Bakhteiva: High-quality medical care is one of the main conditions for overcoming the demographic crisis in Ukraine

Over the years of independence, Ukraine has dropped to 172 in the world in terms of the birth rate. Experiments of power in the social sphere and public health, the collapse of the economy are the main reasons why Ukrainians do not want to have children today. This opinion was expressed by MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Tetiana Bakhteieva.

She said that according to the UN report “World Population Prospects” for 2019, the population of Ukraine would decrease by 19.9% by 2050. In general, in the next 30 years, the planet’s population will increase by two billion to 9.7 billion. The average life expectancy of a child born today in one of the least developed countries will be about seven years shorter than that of a child born in a developed country.

“The lack of social guarantees and an effective system of organization of health care has led to the fact that Ukrainians are simply afraid of having children, given the lack of material opportunity and high-quality medical care,” the MP stated.

She stressed that every year many Ukrainians die from the lack of drugs, vaccines and the inability of the Ministry of Healthcare team to provide affordable and quality medical care to the population of Ukraine.

“The team of the Ministry of Health should be urgently replaced by pro-Ukrainian and professional one. High-quality and affordable medical care to the population is one of the main conditions for overcoming the demographic crisis in Ukraine,” Tetiana Bakhteieva summarized.
