In Kryvyi Rih, the consequences of natural disaster are being quickly eliminated. On July 2, 2019, as a result of a sharp hurricane wind with rain (up to 30 m/s), power lines were damaged, the roofs of houses were destroyed, trees were broken, and pillars were tumbled down. About 100,000 families are left without gas and about 50,000 families – without electricity. One person died. Two more have been hospitalized with serious injuries.
Having learned about the scale of the disaster, MP Oleksandr Vilkul at night promptly arrived in Kryvyi Rih and is actively engaged in eliminating the consequences of the hurricane. In 2012-2014, he headed the state commission on technological safety and emergency situations. Now the task of the MP is to coordinate the work of the operational headquarters, created on the instructions of the mayor. “The headquarters coordinates the provision of assistance to the victims, the restoration of the electric-gas and water supply systems. More than 100 thousand addresses are cut off from life support systems. All services work around the clock. Now it is very important first of all to restore all systems in hospitals, kindergartens and schools where school camps are located,” Oleksandr Vilkul said.
Currently, damage assessment from a hurricane is underway, but it is already clear that the damage is very substantial. The initiative to assist Kryvyi Rih was made by the mayors of the OPPOSITION BLOC.
“Alien misfortune does not happen. Man cannot control natural disasters. Mariupol residents remember the active assistance by Oleksandr Vilkul and Kryvyi Rih to our city and citizens who suffered from the shelling of the Vostochny microdistrict on January 24, 2015. Now we are offering assistance,” said Vadym Boychenko, OPPOSITION BLOC, mayor of Mariupol.
“We see that there are no offers of help from the Cabinet of Ministers yet. In Kyiv, all are engaged in elections. For us, the main thing is people. Therefore, Kharkiv will also assist in building materials and all necessary. I have already contacted our colleague Oleksandr Vilkul, who quickly left for Kryvyi Rih at night,” said Hennadii Kernes, OPPOSITION BLOC, mayor of Kharkiv.
