Ihor Shurma: 700 thousand pensioners of the Donbas are deprived of pensions, but the authorities do not care about it

The OPPOSITION BLOC demands to adopt Resolution No. 4575 on the immediate restoration of pension payments in the uncontrolled territories of the Donbas. After all, 700 thousand pensioners of the Donbas are virtually deprived of their livelihood. This was stated by MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Ihor Shurma during a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada.

According to him, the parliamentary majority lacks of understanding of the value of human life. “The ruling coalition does not care about how pensioners of the Donbas survive under shelling, how they die in queues at checkpoints, how they give the last penny to cross the demarcation line and get pensions. Pushing through the parliament a punitive draft law on language, legalizing the raiding of the UOC temples, embezzlement from the defense budget – these are their true priorities,” the MP stated.

Opposition politician noted that the parliament should urgently consider the draft resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine №4575 and adopt a mechanism for the restoration of pensions, giving appropriate instructions to the coalition government. “Unpaid pensions in the Donbas are money stolen from Ukrainians who suffered as a result of the war,” he said.

However, the government is not interested in such “trifles”. After all, now it is trying to introduce pre-election supplements under the guise of pension reform. “For some reason, the Cabinet of Ministers offers compensation before the elections. Let me remind you that pensioners who were forced to work in order to survive were charged with a 15% pension. Instead of honestly returning this money, the government will pay it to the people as pre-election “handouts”. There has never been such a thing in the history of a civilized, socially responsible humanity,” the oppositionist noted.

“Under the current authorities, no real improvement can be expected. If nobody cares about the problems of older people in parliament except the opposition, it means that the coalition has opposed itself to pensioners, IDPs, Russian-speaking Ukrainians, believers of the UOC, so this is a coalition of election headquarters of the leader of public distrust, President Petro Poroshenko. The situation will change only after the victory of the professional and constructive opposition forces in the elections,” Ihor Shurma concluded.
