MP Dmytro Shentsev believes that solely the citizens of Ukraine should have the right of ownership of the land, and the issue of the sale of agricultural land should be resolved in a referendum.
According to the politician, the issue of land has become the number 1 topic for many Ukrainians. “People are concerned about the intention of the authorities to lift the moratorium on its sale and create a land market in the country. The villagers talk about a complete mess in the land registration system, which leads to raiding and corruption. People are also concerned about the issue: who will get the land after the sale? Will Ukrainians become mercenaries in their land, which will be bought by foreign companies? After all, this, in essence, will lead to the extinction of the Ukrainian village,” the politician wrote on his Facebook page.
According to Shentsev, the other day he received an appeal from almost four thousand voters with a request to take into account the position of the villagers when discussing land issues in the Verkhovna Rada, namely: to advocate a civilized, phased and transparent introduction of land accounting, for a wide discussion and putting the land issue to the people’s referendum and for the protection of the rights of ordinary land owners.
“I carry out the order of voters. Together with our colleagues, we have developed and submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law No. 2178-8, in which all these issues were taken into account. We insist that the ownership of land belong only to citizens of Ukraine. We consider it mandatory to raise the issue of the sale of agricultural land for a referendum. And we urge the MPs to develop and adopt draft laws that would support the development of farming in Ukraine,” the MP said.
