Prime Minister of the Opposition Government Borys Kolesnikov considers the idea of holding a referendum on establishing peace in the Donbas, proposed by President Zelensky, quite acceptable. However, there are many issues related to the reintegration of the Donbas and peace, which the new President can solve without a referendum. He stated this on the “Nash” TV channel.
“The referendum is a completely normal world experience. All world countries spend them. I see nothing wrong with the very idea of a referendum. However, today we can take steps that in no way impair Ukrainian independence, but at the same time begin the process of returning our territories. Can the food blockade of the Donbas, introduced in 2015, be lifted? Sure, it can. There is the same situation with the economic blockade. As for air traffic, how did it happen that trains from Ukraine go to Russia, and planes do not fly? What is the position then? This is an inconvenience for ordinary people,” the Opposition Prime Minister emphasized.
According to him, if the President, as stated during his inaugural speech, donates a rating and his position for the sake of peace, he will definitely gain the trust of society. “The President promised to achieve peace as quickly as possible. He should not care what spears fly into him. If he achieves peace on conditions respected by Ukraine, it means that he will fulfill his promise, and society will appreciate that for sure,” Borys Kolesnikov emphasized.
