Ukraine recently celebrated the 74th anniversary of the Victory. The main characters of this holiday – veterans – continue to receive congratulations. Oppositionists from Odesa Oblast continue to personally congratulate the participants of the Great Patriotic War. This weekend, the opposition honored veterans of Odesa, Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky, Izmail and Chornomorsk.
“Congratulations to all on Victory Day! Our ancestors had to pay a terrible price for peace: the war claimed lives and crippled the fates of millions of people. May 9 is a sacred holiday, and it will forever remain in our hearts! Year after year, the witnesses of the events of that terrible war are becoming fewer and fewer, and the more important such meetings become. We will do everything possible to be worthy of a generation of winners,” said Volodymyr Mezelintsev, a representative of the OPPOSITION BLOC in Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky.
Almost all veterans are over 90 years old. They walked thousands of kilometers of front-line roads and partisan paths to change the bloody horror of 1,418 days and nights of the war to the Great Victory. And, although the years take their toll, the winners are happy to receive guests today, eagerly recall their military everyday life and peaceful life afterwards. They commemorate a minute of silence for those who remained forever on the battlefield or did not live up to our days.
“This is not just a tradition; it is our tribute and gratitude to all who fought on the fronts, behind enemy lines or provided our rear. This is the memory of all those who gave their lives for the sake of our future. The feat of those who defeated fascism should serve as an example for the younger generations. Thank you, dear veterans!” said Bohdan Hihanov, deputy of the Odesa city council from the OPPOSITION BLOC.
