“The OPPOSITION BLOC demands the Cabinet of Ministers to fulfill the decision of the Constitutional Court and restore social benefits to “Chernobyl victims”, MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Artur Martovytskyi said during a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada.

According to him, the OPPOSITION BLOC has achieved restoration of benefits to victims of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, but the decision of the Constitutional Court is not implemented. According to estimates of the Pension Fund, in Ukraine there are more than one hundred thousand “Chernobyl victims” of the first category and the total number of victims is more than two million.

“Every year the liquidators are becoming smaller because of the antisocial actions of the government. Previously, “Chernobyl” received increased pensions, but currently payments have been significantly reduced and benefits have been taken away. And all this happens in conditions of worsening medical care,” the oppositionist said.

Artur Martovytskyi read in the Verkhovna Rada a letter from the wife of the deceased “Chernobyl” Olha Konovalova. It turns out that the monthly compensation of UAH 113 to a woman has not been revised since 2011, although the minimum wage has increased four times during this period.

“The authorities have a duty to those who have lost their health, saving the country from radiation disaster. Therefore, today it is necessary to restore all the benefits taken from them by the current authorities. This is food, partial payment of utility bills, increase in pensions, payment for drugs, treatment and support for children,” Artur Martovytskyi noted.
