Oleksandr Vilkul: Direct negotiations with Russia are necessary, but we must defend national interests, rather than create a federal district of the Russian Federation

Oleksandr Vilkul, one of the leaders of the OPPOSITION BLOC, on the “Freedom of Speech” program on ICTV noted that, unlike the “For Life” structure, the OPPOSITION BLOC is an independent Ukrainian political force, including decision-making.

“They (“For Life”. - Approx. Ed.) listen to the Kremlin, receive instructions there, nobody hides it. I have a great attitude to Russian culture. We speak Russian – half the country speaks Russian! However, I do not want our country to be some South-Western district of the Russian Federation. We stand for Ukraine! We stand for non-aligned Ukraine, for an independent Ukraine, for Ukraine, where everyone can speak their native language, in which each region makes decisions which holidays to celebrate and how to name their streets. We stand for a strong Ukraine,” Vilkul said.

According to him, almost the entire parliament, except Medvedchuk and his group, is today under various sanctions from Russia. “I don’t care about it. I did not have and do not have any business in the Russian Federation, unlike Petro Poroshenko. I did not have and do not have any real estate in the Russian Federation. Therefore, this does not concern me in any way as a person. Speaking as a politician, negotiations will be conducted with any sane person who offers real things. But! The important point is to negotiate on an equal footing. It is necessary to negotiate on an equal footing and agree on a quick end to the war in the interests of Ukraine, find mutually beneficial compromises, rather than go there to surrender. We know how to do it, and we will do it,” the oppositionist summarized.
