From June 19 to June 23, 2019, the twenty-sixth annual General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy will take place in Tbilisi. The OPPOSITION BLOC faction demands to include MPs – Vadym Novynskyi and Mykhailo Dobkin in the delegation. This was stated by one of the leaders of the OPPOSITION BLOC Oleksandr Vilkul during his statement from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada.
“In violation of the requirements regarding the order of forming the composition of inter-parliamentary delegations, the Committee of Foreign Affairs at its meeting, almost in a closed manner, made a decision on the composition of the delegation, which included Volodymyr Ariev, Andriy Lozovyi and Viktor Yelenskyi,” the oppositionist said.
He stressed that with such actions, the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada only exacerbated the split in Ukrainian Orthodoxy.
“In recent years, the leadership of the parliament has already demonstrated a disregard for the rights of those who defend the position of the largest and, most importantly, canonical Orthodox denomination in Ukraine – the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which rights have been constantly violated in recent years. The OPPOSITION BLOC demands that Vadym Novynskyi and Mykhailo Dobkin be included in the composition of the Ukrainian delegation,” Oleksandr Vilkul said.
According to him, Vadym Novynskyi, as a people’s deputy of Ukraine, as a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Culture and Spirituality, has been participating in the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy for many years. And a great help in this matter, the MP added, was also provided by a member of our faction, the leader of the “Christian Socialists” party, Mykhailo Dobkin.
“Therefore, taking into account the status of our political force, which is in opposition to the power, the experience of my colleagues in this area, I believe that the composition of the delegation of the General Assembly formed by the Committee of Foreign Affairs without the participation of opposition representatives does not comply with the principles of the activities of both parliament and the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy,” the oppositionist summarized.
