The Verkhovna Rada held a weekly Conciliation Board of factions and groups, the last before the first round of voting in the presidential election. In his speech, Oleksandr Vilkul, the OPPOSITION BLOC presidential candidate, expressed confidence that for two weeks, there would be a reboot of the authorities, and the next work plan would be discussed by the parliament in completely new political conditions.
According to him, by getting rid of the need to “serve the political PR of the country’s leadership,” the Verkhovna Rada will finally have the opportunity to “do business that is really important for the people and the state.”
Among the priority issues, the leader of the united opposition called the establishment of peace in the Donbas, in particular, the lifting of the economic, transport, energy and humanitarian blockade of temporarily uncontrolled territories. The corresponding draft resolution of the Verkhovna Rada was submitted by Vilkul and MPs from the OPPOSITION BLOC in February 2019.
Oleksandr Vilkul also stressed that “all decisions to split the Ukrainian society”, which the parliament had previously taken under the dictation of the Presidential Administration, were subject to immediate cancellation. This, in particular, is about the law “On Education”, the laws in the church sphere, etc.
The opposition presidential candidate also pointed out the importance of working for real, not fictitious, decentralization. “For local communities, it is necessary to consolidate really broad economic and humanitarian powers. This will give them the opportunity to really develop in the interests of the residents,” he said.
According to Oleksandr Vilkul, “a separate issue is the responsibility for the crimes committed by representatives of the current authorities.” The Verkhovna Rada will have to deal with all the “crimes and mockery of the people” that the current authorities committed during these five years. In this regard, a whole series of new temporary investigation commissions will be created and the composition of the existing ones, which will be headed by the representatives of the current president, will be revised. First of all, we are talking about changing the composition of the temporary investigation commission to investigate the facts of plundering in the Armed Forces. It is also necessary to put an end to the investigation of crimes committed during the Maidan and on March 2, 2014 in Odesa.
The opposition leader noted that, in the new political environment, the parliament would have to abolish “anti-social experiments, called “reforms” by the authorities. We are talking about pension, medical “reforms”, etc. In his opinion, the only way to develop the country is “support for industry and wage growth, rather than turning Ukraine into a cemetery of factories and 10 million forced labor migrants.” Vilkul said that all those who, in the interests of the current authorities, manipulated parliament and squeezed these “reforms” would be called to justice. In particular, it concerns the actions of the Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy, who constantly violated the Rules of the Parliament.“I constantly keep in touch with people across the country. For five years, they have suffered abuses and constant deception. The people are waiting not only for the reboot of the authorities, but also for the punishment of the guilty,” Oleksandr Vilkul emphasized.
