“73% voted in the elections for peace, the cessation of radicalism, the restoration of a decent life. However, why does not the new President do it, having the authority? We are all looking forward to this,” Oleksandr Vilkul, one of the leaders of the OPPOSITION BLOC, wrote on his Facebook page.
“There is still no clear program, in which direction our state will move. The issue of establishing peace has been indefinitely postponed. There are no direct negotiations – what we and the people of Ukraine demand. Neither Minsk nor Normandy, or any other format works. The blockade of the Donbas, which Poroshenko introduced by his decree, continues” the MP said during his speech from the rostrum.
The oppositionist demanded the new President to cancel Poroshenko’s decree, which would make it possible to lift the energy, transport, economic and humanitarian blockade of the Donbas. “And this will be the first step towards peace,” the MP said.
Vilkul also demanded actions from the President in relation to the security forces, which are inactive and cover the ongoing chaos in the country.
“People did not vote in the elections for killing children. A five-year-old boy ... (Editor’s note: a five-year-old boy died, who was shot by drunken policemen in Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi.) This system works to cover up this mess. There is still no reaction of the President. People did not vote for the strengthening of radical-national formations ... The monument to Marshal of victory to Zhukov was demolished in Kharkiv ... There is no reaction of the President on this issue too. Ukrainians who voted for Volodymyr Zelensky do not understand this,” the oppositionist said.
Vilkul added that Ukrainians had not voted in the presidential elections for the next increase in gas tariffs (from June 1, the price increased by another 5.2%). “I once again remind, the President has all the powers to stop any government decree by his decree. The President can abolish the increase in tariffs by his decree and what was today, half a year, and a year ago. Tariffs will automatically decrease,” he stressed.
The oppositionist urged the Verkhovna Rada and the President to constructive work. “I urge the parliament to work, I urge the President to work, reduce tariffs, go to direct negotiations, remove the governors – no one has changed, start changing security officials in the center and change something in the country. Poroshenko’s shameful policy cannot continue. Our faction demands it, all the people of Ukraine demand it,” Oleksandr Vilkul summarized.
