Reporting on economic “successes”, the current authorities prefer not to recall that they have far more failures than published “victories”. This was said by MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Oleksandr Dolzhenkov during a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada on Wednesday, February 27.
“The current regime is very selective in its proclamations. It boasts that as a result of the signing of the economic part of the Association Agreement, the level of exports to the EU countries increased by $ 1.5 billion from 2013. But it forgets to say that during the same time, trade with the CIS countries fell by $ 11 billion. That is, exports to the West have not blocked exports, which used to go to the East,” the opposition politician said.
He noted that the country’s leadership is not fastidious about double standards. “The authorities constantly say that it is necessary to stop trade with the Russian Federation, but at the same time they are struggling to maintain the transit of Russian gas. They boast that they do not buy Russian “blue fuel”, and consider this their great achievement. At the same time, in 2018 we imported 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas, of which about 6 billion cubic meters – from Switzerland and Germany. Are these countries gas producers? Of course, not. They simply buy Russian gas through European transit gaskets and sell us for big money. And should we be proud of such purchases?” the MP stressed.Oleksandr Dolzhenkov also pointed out the problems that had arisen after the introduction of a visa-free regime with the EU. “We are constantly told that “visa-free” regime is a great achievement of the current authorities. But they do not specify that as a result the number of labor migrants has increased incredibly. That is, new production sites in Ukraine are not being created, but at the same time, the majority of Ukrainian able-bodied citizens who could work for the benefit of our economy, paying all taxes, emigrate to EU-countries. And why should investors from the EU invest in Ukraine if Ukrainians themselves go to their countries? About 8 million able-bodied Ukrainian citizens are already working outside the country. And is this a reasonable policy? Of course, not. Therefore, the authorities are engaged in PR on the themes of the army, language and faith, because more people have nothing to say,” the oppositionist summarized.
