The OPPOSITION BLOC insists on the immediate removal of the draft law on language No. 5670-d from consideration by the Verkhovna Rada, which can provoke a new wave of civil confrontation in Ukrainian society. This was stated by MP from the OPPOSITION BLOC Oleksandr Dolzhenkov.
According to him, the adoption of the draft law in its current version is unacceptable. “With this draft law, the authorities openly “spit” on the Constitution, international obligations and the European Charter for Regional Languages. Notably, even the main legal department of the Verkhovna Rada made comments on the draft law,” the MP said.
According to Oleksandr Dolzhenkov, the adoption of the draft law on language in the wording of the current authorities can provoke a new round of civil confrontation.
“The current regime reminds an insistent ram, beating a brick wall with its forehead. More than once, raising the linguistic theme, they received popular unrest and provoked conflict with neighboring countries. And now they realize that a new wave of discontent is ripening. They know that national minorities will not tolerate another attack on their rights, however, they continue pushing discriminatory norms. They know that many doors in Europe will be closed for Ukraine, but even that does not stop them,” the opposition representative said.
According to Oleksandr Dolzhenkov, it is not accident that the authorities have taken out the “language map” just on the eve of the elections.
“The rush with the adoption of the law is explained elementarily – on the eve of the elections, the authorities have prepared a “language” leverage exclusively for a patriotic audience. And nobody cares that, pushing the law, they open the way to a new wave of civil confrontation in different parts of Ukraine,” the oppositionist added.
According to Oleksandr Dolzhenkov, the adoption of the draft law on language will finally embroil Ukraine with international partners. “If the law is adopted in its current version, it will provoke conflicts with neighboring countries,” the parliamentarian added.
Oleksandr Dolzhenkov stressed that the OPPOSITION BLOC strongly opposes the adoption of the draft law on language in its current form.
“We will fight to ensure that the languages of national minorities receive the status of regional, that the regions can calmly support education, communication, culture, and document circulation in these languages. This does not infringe the status of the Ukrainian language. This, on the contrary, makes it possible for our multinational country to exist and develop,” Oleksandr Dolzhenkov concluded.
